Addig kellett volna a Ducati gyárihoz menni amíg lehetett, most már mi a tököm lesz?

It's The End Of The World As We Know It?
face it: we are fans of a socially useless activity
by dean adams
Friday, November 18, 2005
Clearly the 2005 off-season has been a criminally ironic period in racing, with most of the incidents not even needing comment or reporting for enthusiasts to recognize them. To wit:
Kenny Roberts' GP team signs deal with Honda. For thirty years, Kenny Roberts has been a the anti-Honda, as a rider and a GP team owner. He alone battled Spencer and HRC for the title in '83, he and Rainey beat Honda and Doohan for the world championships in the early 1990s, his independent GP team was designed to break the back of GP teams like HRC by building smaller/lighter/faster GP bikes for less money than a one-season HRC lease deal.
Assuredly a two-year contract with HRC isn't a lifetime agreement—and does keep the dream alive— but it is going to be difficult for some fans to see a Roberts bike with a Honda engine in it.
Ducati—tired of American riders and their day-to-day, ah, ''fluctuating'' riding performance— swore off American riders for their '06 US team. Then they hired perhaps the most American rider currently racing—Ben Bostrom.
Yamaha tantalizes us all by building a beautiful R1LE motorcycle with all the bits to make it uber-competitve in Superbike but then decides to race it—only—in Superstock in '06.
And possibly the most cruel twist of the off-season? The Italian circuit Monza—one of the greatest race tracks the world will ever know—is now under threat from local townspeople because the racing is deemed too loud. Racing too loud for Italians; welcome to hell everybody.
A local judge has banned motorsports activities at Monza ''unless the vehicles involved are fitted with a silencing system to reduce noise levels''.
While these noise complaints currently center on the F1 event at Monza, assuredly it won't be long before the World Superbike machines are petitioned against.
According to a news report, the well-accepted adage that every Italian is a motorsports fan is dead. The Italian judge in charge of this case termed racing a ''superfluous, dangerous and socially useless activity that (has) a major impact on the environment''.
Monza, (or Parco de Monza as the sign outside the facility reads) is a race track inside the Italian city of Monza.

Parent Company of Dorna Buys F1
by dean adams
Saturday, November 26, 2005
The Euro news sites, including all of the London newspapers, are reporting that F1 boss Berni Eccelstone sold a chunk of the rights to the F1 world championship to CVC Partners last night. Eccelstone--a former motorcycle dealer turned international wheeler-dealer--is fighting off the split of the F1 series into two factions ala CART and IRL.
Why would this car news matter to the two-wheeled crowd? CVC Partners is the parent company of Dorna, the rights holder to the Grand Prix/MotoGP world championship.

Konica Minolta Honda confirms 2006 package
Konica Minolta Honda team manager Luca Montiron has confirmed that his outfit will retain the same Honda-Michelin package for next year’s MotoGP World Championship.
“Our team has secured the package with the Honda RC211V, Michelin tyres and the financial support from Konica Minolta,” he said.
Montiron cleared up the doubts raised over the future of his partnership with Michelin as the team won’t be testing in Sepang next week.
“Testing in November is, in my opinion, not the best way to start our preparation for the Championship,” explained the Italian.
“We are going to visit Sepang twice, in January and February and then we’ll be able to test all we want. Last year, Tamada became one of the fastest riders during winter testing outside Europe, but when we returned to work in Europe the difference of temperature caused him a loss of feeling. We prefer to test with lower temperatures and work in these conditions´
“There are not substantial changes compared to the 2005 season. We hope to maintain the stability in our project. We maintain the same package and, besides the experience gained during this year, our hopes are focussed on improving our results with Michelin tyres. The winter break will be useful to recover and return stronger for the 2006 season.”

Én maradok a Vale, Capirex, Hopkins triónál!

HRC Release On Sepang Test: Pedrosa Fastest Honda
by staff
Wednesday, November 30, 2005
This just in from HRC:
HONDA RACING INFORMATION
HRC MotoGP test Sepang, Malaysia November 30, 2005
Final day of the three-day test.
Pedrosa fastest Honda on final day of Sepang MotoGP test
Rapidly changing weather conditions hindered the Honda MotoGP riders on the final day of the three-day MotoGP test held at Sepang, Malaysia. The morning session was virtually abandoned by most riders due to the half wet - half dry track conditions but a heavy down pour at lunchtime saw several riders take to the track testing Michelin wet weather tires.
Repsol Honda Nicky Hayden was quick to take advantage of the conditions and ran over 20 laps of the wet track testing the latest RC211V chassis in combination with full wet tires. When the track dried out Hayden began testing a range of slick tires for Michelin.
Dani Pedrosa, on the second Repsol Honda, ran his first ever wet weather test aboard an RCV. The 20-year old Spaniard was surprised by how easy the RCV was to handle in the wet in comparison to the RS250R-W he raced to his second 250cc World Championship.
Pedrosa set the fastest time of the day at 2m 02.770s with Hayden a whisker behind just two/tenths of a second slower.
The weather forced Fortuna Honda rider Marco Melandri to abandon his planned race simulation test Michelin had planned for the day but the young Italian was satisfied with the work he managed to do. Teammate Toni Elias went out in both wet and dry conditions and found a good direction to work in at the next HRC MotoGP test, here at Sepang in late January.
The Honda Pons riders were not as active as their fellow Honda riders in the wet conditions. Carlos Checa decided to sit out the wet session but put in 45 dry laps after lunch. Casey Stoner did some wet laps but rested his cramped arms on a few occasions eventually covering 48 laps of the 5.548km grand prix circuit.
Honda rider lap times and quotes.
Nicky Hayden, Repsol Honda: 2m 02.790s - 89 laps. ''You know the weather wasn't the best today but I needed to get in a lot of laps in the wet. We focused on my old bike and put in some decent laps with the wets on. We also tried an intermediate tyre that I really liked. When it dried out we tried out some rear tires that were a little different from the ones we used at GP here and they were a little better, which was really good. The three-day's were really useful for the team and I set my best time of the week today but you always want to be faster. I will leave here with a positive spirit. Go home regroup and wait for the New Year. All the guys on the tam have worked so hard, nobody was afraid to get their hands dirty, mechanics, HRC and the Michelin guys. Sure we want more but we will go away from here positive. Not on top of the world but not at the bottom either.''
Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda: 2m 02.770s - 57 laps. ''I surprised myself this week I was riding this track sliding with the tyre they gave me. I tried three different tires today and at the end I began to feel the difference with each tyre. I could understand where the limit of the slide was. Also how the tires work when they are new and when they have done many laps. It was much different riding this bike on wet tires. I was surprised by how much grip they have in the corners but I was sliding on the straights when accelerating. Even under braking the rear end of the bike weaves from side to side and you feel it in the handlebars. But I didn't do too many laps but I was really happy with the feeling in the wet. It was a very positive experience but I'm tired, very, very tired. I think I will have to rest for five days when I get home to get over it.''
Marco Melandri, Fortuna Honda: 2m 02.80s - 56 laps ''Not so bad, even if we could not test much in the wet, or dry conditions either. I was supposed to run a race simulation and try four different tires but the rain prevented that. It was the same with the wet tires. I had two tires to test but only managed to test one because the track dried out too quickly. I didn't really like this track before but I found a good rhythm all week and I improved my performance over that in the race here. The test was very positive for me and the tam and I will now wait for the new bike to arrive in January.''
Toni Elias, Fortuna Honda: 2m 02.865s - 50 laps. ''Not so bad with the wet tires today but we have to have more experience with this bike before I can be really fast in the wet. I didn't try to hard when the track was drying the half wet - half dry track is not good for testing. Really all we did was test tires today but it was good because we have found the direction we have to work in at the next tests. The test was positive, the bike is very good and I'm gaining confidence but I'm not where I need to be yet.''
Carlos Checa, Team Honda Pons: 2m 03.395s - 45 laps. ''Speaking with my chief mechanic (Santi Mulero) we considered it would not be helpful too test in the conditions. Half wet - half dry track surfaces are not ideal for testing a new bike. We could not learn anything positive today in the wet. I have a good feeling with a motorcycle in wet conditions but only when I have a good base line to work from. When the track dried out we tried some different Michelin rear tires with good results. This test has been very positive for me. I believe in the combination of Honda, Michelin and my team, we have learned many different things here at Sepang. Next year we will arrive here and start again. The feeling and understanding I have with this bike now at this moment tells me this is a very strong combination.''
Casey Stoner, Team Honda Pons: 2m 3.700s - 48 laps. ''I'm pretty pleased with the way things have gone for me this week. I like the bike you don't have to muscle the bike around but you do have to move your body weight around the bike and keep your weight forward at certain places on this track The team have been great and I enjoy working with them. I had cramps at times but so I will go home and relax, get fit and come back in January much better shape.''

Yamaha Speaks
by dean adams
Wednesday, November 30, 2005
On Tuesday I had an opportunity to talk with Yamaha Corporate Communications Manager Bob Starr and Yamaha's Racing Manager Keith McCarty regarding their 2006 roadracing plans, which do not include Superbike. Starr and McCarty gave a chronological review of Yamaha's experience over the last two years and I followed up with some questions regarding the 2007 season and the R1LE.
Bob Starr:
Let's start in August of 2003, because at that time we finalized our racing plans for the 2005 season. That's how we do things: generally we work two years in advance. We have to so that everything is in sync with our marketing and our model plans and our overall goals for Yamaha.
Keith McCarty:
Keep in mind that date may seem like a menial thing, but at that time we were on a fiscal year budget, meaning that our budget started April 1. So August is roughly six months from that budget season starting. So that's usually when we have discussions about roadracing budgets and what we're going to do and how we're going to do it. That may seem like a small point, but it's somewhat important. Essentially these decisions are made long before we need the money.
Starr:
During that time in August in 2003, our number one goal for the 2005 season, we determined, was to win what was or is the number one road race in the US—the Daytona 200. From a marketing perspective, it happens really at the right time —in March—which is the beginning of the riding season.
At that time, we started development on our Superbike project, which you remember, would have been on the 2004 R1. The 2004 model had significant changes to the engine and chassis—it was essentially an all-new at that time.
Then, in August of 2004—a year after we made the plans for 2005—we learned that the AMA abruptly switched the Daytona 200 from 1000cc to 600cc for March of 2005. They went from Superbike rules to Formula Extreme rules.
McCarty:
At that time, the rules that were out there were ones that still allowed for quick-change parts and the 200 was a Superbike race. We were lobbying, a little bit, to get rid of quick change rules in the future and talking with them so we could feel that we were knowing what was going on in the next year.
It's difficult for any private team to make or acquire those quick change parts—the materials are hard to make and they're very expensive on top of it. We went ahead and did it, feeling that although we wanted the AMA to do away with quick change in the future, we had been talking to them and it seemed to us that it wasn't going to happen in the near future. So we went to a company that Yamaha uses in Europe to make these parts and we purchased all the quick change equipment for a 200 effort at Daytona. We spent upwards of three hundred thousand dollars on those parts alone for that upcoming season.
Then the AMA outlawed quick-change equipment.
That was a pretty big blow, because we had absolutely no inkling that it was going to happen. From anyone.
I know why it was done, why the rule was changed—there were some tires blowing up and they wanted to slow the bikes down. But, we had significant investment in the 200 remaining Superbike and for quick-change equipment to be legal.
Those two situations really influenced what we are doing today. They ruined what we planned to do.
Starr:
So, we're still at August 2004. We looked at each other here and said, you know, there's no way that we can prepare a Formula Extreme bike for Daytona 2005. One thing that you have to remember is that the 2005 R6 received an updated engine and chassis and we didn't even get bikes here in America until the Fall of 2004—actually November. There was no way.
McCarty:
There was no plan either. Basically what happens at Yamaha is that if we're doing something in 2005, we need to be planning and getting things signed off well over a year in advance. At least.
There was no way to turn this big ship around at this point. We'd spent considerable funds on a new Superbike and a new quick change system. This was not funds that didn't get spent—they were spent. They were gone. Significant funds are gone from my roadrace budget (for races) that will never happen.
Starr:
So, then we make plans for the 2006 season. This is in August of 2004. We still want to win the number one race in the country—which is the Daytona 200—a prestigious race with great timing. Plus, we know that we are going to have this really cool new R6 with a strict race focus on the new bike. So we say, okay, we're going to race the 200 and we start racing the Formula Extreme class. That plan is set in motion. We put Superbike plans on hold.
Then, in September 2005, we re-visit Superbike. We have decided to race the R6 in Formula Extreme and the R1 in Superstock, to stay out of Superbike. But one of our competitors (Kawasaki) introduces a new 1000 and decides to enter the Superbike class. Then another competitor (Honda) decides to withdraw their factory team from the Formula Extreme class as a factory effort-after the Daytona 200.
Also, later in 2005, we confirmed Jamie Hacking for 2006. He and Jason DiSalvo were the only riders we had signed in September 2005. It wasn't until just before our press release went out, in the last days of October, that we had Eric Bostrom signed to our team.
McCarty:
And, lets keep in mind that after the 2005 Daytona 200, all of the comments from readers and enthusiasts regarding the Daytona 200 were that they felt it was a boring race with just one factory racing the class. So, we had plans in motion to bring some life back to that race and to that class by having some top Yamaha riders race the class.
People seem to be concentrating on the negative aspects of what we're doing in 2006—or what they see as negative, but I prefer to concentrate on the positive. We're going about racing on our plan, what our plan has been for over a year, to race three classes and stay out of Superbike. After what Yamaha has experienced in terms of these changes to the (Superbike) class—can anyone blame us?
Starr:
So, if you look at what we're doing for 2006, you can see that we're racing in three of the four AMA classes. All three classes provided some very, very good racing in the 2005 season and we look for more of that in 2006. You know, in Superstock and Supersport, one could easily argue that the racing in those two classes was better than the racing in Superbike.
Our future plans are to definitely be in Superbike.
Question: In 2007?
McCarty: We're not revealing that officially, but I think that if you look at our team, we have really built a pretty good team in terms of riders for the next few years. We have a multi-year agreement with Eric Bostrom and I think it safe to say that is the direction we are headed.
Question: It's hard to look at the R1LE and not feel that it is a purpose-built Superbike.
McCarty: Honestly, it was built as a 50 year collectible bike more than anything. It was built by the factory—it wasn't a bike that we asked for per se to go race any class. I think that Yamaha wanted to build a really cool R1 for their 50th anniversary. The R series of Yamaha bikes have been moving forward at a really fast pace in terms of evolution—on both the R6 and R1—and I think this is just the latest version of that plan. I'm sure that there is something even more amazing on the drawing board right now.

Biaggi confirms 'status quo'
News, 10/12/05
After Marco Melandri, it was Max Biaggi's turn to meet the fans at the Bologna Motorshow on Friday afternoon. As the future of the Italian veteran is still unsure and surrounded by speculation, his appearance at the show was eagerly awaited... but didn't learn much to his fans.
Biaggi indicated that he could join Kawasaki Racing: ''Bridgestone confirmed to me that there wouldn't be any problem about getting me some tyres. The team, Kawasaki, is aware of that and so is the sponsor, Camel. So basically I told them I was available, now we'll have to wait and see what happens.''
The Italian also talked about his split with Honda and his complicated relationship with the Japanese factory during last season. And he made clear that he was determined to race next year, asking to his fans: ''Would you really like to see Max Biaggi riding as a test-rider?''...egy fecske nem csinál nyarat, viszont egy hülye százat csinál...

Max Biaggi has claimed that Bridgestone will supply him with tyres, should Kawasaki and Camel finalise a deal for the Roman to ride a third factory ZX-RR in the 2006 MotoGP World Championship.
Last week, Bridgestone appeared to end any chance of the deal when Motor Cycle News reported that the Japanese company would support the same number of machines as in 2005 - and had refused to supply any additional riders.
With Makoto Tamada's request for a return to Bridgestone rubber reportedly turned down for that very reason, it appeared far from a hollow threat - with Kawasaki team manager Harald Eckl confirming that a Biaggi deal was ''virtually impossible'' as a result of the tyre situation.
However, speaking at the Bologna Motor Show, Biaggi claimed that Bridgestone had told him that tyre supply was not a problem - and he made clear that both Kawasaki and Camel know this... putting pressure back on the two companies to reach an agreement.
''Bridgestone confirmed to me that there wouldn't be any problem about getting me some tyres,'' the official MotoGP website reports Biaggi as saying. ''The team, Kawasaki, is aware of that and so is the sponsor, Camel. So basically I told them I was available, now we'll have to wait and see what happens.''...egy fecske nem csinál nyarat, viszont egy hülye százat csinál...
