''Transitive CEO Bob Wiederhold also claims that for computationally-intensive tasks, QuickTransit (and thus Rosetta) can achieve 60% to 80% of native speed. He noted that emulated applications can consume up to 25% more memory than their native equivalents, due to caching translated code for fast reuse, so Core Duo Macs will need some extra RAM in comparison to PowerPC Macs.

We don't really know how Rosetta gets its impressive speed, though. Caching, optimization and dynamic recompilation are all techniques in wide use already, but not with results as good as we've experienced with Rosetta. Whatever the secret ingredient is, neither Transitive nor Apple is talking. While it can't equal native speed – a factor creative users dependent on non-native applications such as Photoshop should keep in mind – it is fast enough to be quite usable for many tasks. Translated applications ''feel'' like they're running on a mid-range G4 Mac. Even games aren't as bad as we expected.''

''Rosetta isn't the universal code translator of the old 68k emulator — there are some things it just can't do. It can't run ''kernel extensions,'' software which runs in the Mac OS X core operating system kernel — so a lot of drivers, such as Microsoft's Mouse and Keyboard drivers, won't run at all. (We were pleased to discover that our Wacom Graphire tablet had basic functionality with Adobe Photoshop CS under Rosetta, but advanced features enabled by Wacom's driver were unavailable.)'' - minden pro pshop user wacom padon dolgozik..

''Be that as it may, consumers are asking me how well it runs on the Mac Pro in spite of that handicap. They want to know what kind of ''hit'' they will take if the make the leap to the Intel based Macs before Adobe releases a UB version of Photoshop -- which, as I understand it, won't happen before Q2 2007 -- which usually means June 30th, 2007. We're trying to provide an answer to that question.

Photoshop isn't the only application on which consumers make their decision, but for years it's been the application featured in MacWorld keynotes to demonstrate the Power Mac's superiority over the PC world. And it's sold a lot of Macs. How it has disappeared from the keynote introduction of the Mac Pro (and other Intel based Macs) as well as from Apple's Mac Pro published benchmarks while a large part of their constituency continue to use it as their main application.''
