    I finally had an email this morning re my 17:08 16gb 3-5 day order:

    Apologies for not receiving a backorder notification update on your order sooner. Due to overwhelming demand we sold out of Nexus 4 extremely quickly. I've verified that your delivery is on backorder and will ship within the next 3-5 weeks.

    We'll send you a notification when your order has shipped and will credit the shipping charges.

    I'm so annoyed and disappointed that they think they can treat their customers like this. I spent a fruitless half hour on the phone to cs but got nowhere They said that all 3-5 day orders are now 3-5 weeks estimated on backorder. They did sort of acknowledge that the 1-2 week orders are still on schedule and will therefore likely get their phones before Xmas and before the 3-5 day orders. Apparently this issue has been escalated as cs have not been given an official response to justify this decision.
